I really love my band, and like playing with a group featuring a singer. So I don’t often go out as an instrumental trio, but I have to say, it is a lot of fun when the opportunity arises. Recently we got a call from Yelp! for a return engagement. Last year they had a special public event for their local St. Louis users of the social media/crowd source review site. That was at Union Station, and last Thursday, they had a cool happenin‘ at a swanky Central West End restaurant, Central Table.
So with me on piano, Joe Burress on drums, and Steve Kauffmann on saxes, we went and played cool background music for three hours while the guests tried fun food and drinks supplied by local restaurateurs. The instrumental jazz trio is a nice mood-setter for those looking to class up some already classy event (and as we like to say, “we’re stinkin’ with class, stinkin’ with class I tell ya!”).
For us musicians? It’s nice to stretch out songs, play off each other’s solos, and frankly, have the opportunity to be better musicians while having fun at the same time.
